A Good Factual Review about 1&1 Hosting?

Makes a change. It's hard to find a positive and factual "customer" review about 1&1 these days, but here is an obviously satisfied customer with a factual expert assessment and advise. Clearly 1and1 must be doing something right as they are one of the worlds largest web hosts.

About 1&1 Internet,( 1and1 Hosting )

Maybe its just me. But I’ve always thought there has been some confusion over 1&1’s actual name. They are officially `1&1` but of course their websites are at 1and1.co.uk and 1and1.com obviously.

This forces some people to hunt on Google for the correct URL for 1&1, Some search for “oneandone.” One or two searchers make common typo’s such as `i&i` or `1&i` `i&1` `iandi` and so on, but despite this the company has become a massive success, and has earn’t the title “the worlds web host.”

1and1 Web Hosting Review

A more thorough than usual review of of 1&1 Web Hosting. Strange how the biggest and most popular hosts get some of the worst reviews. I mean if they were that big, how did they get so damn big? I've had a few servers with1&1 now without issue. Just remember that you are on your own with tech support. However because of their supurb re-image tool, console access and a decent backup stategy, there should be no need for calling their tech support

This is because the company founded in 1992 by Ralph Dommermuth, operates on a global scale with over 15,000MBit of network capacity. 1&1 currently employ’s over 150 developers and administrators. Total Employees amount to nearer 1,300.

Are Keyword Spy Tools Any Good

I'm been wondering for a while if any of these keyword spy tool are any good and whether they produce accurate results. Perhaps one way to check is to "spy" on your own website. I can see them working better for paid search rather than organic search.

Discover your Competitions Profitable Keywords with Keyword Spy

Keyword Spy will then tell you what keywords your competition are bidding on (you enter the URL of your competitor). Obviously its not going to be 100% accurate but will give you a prett ygood idea of what keywords they have optimised for!

Run Windows Bible Software on your Mac

Free Bible software is remarkably good, and sometimes faster and easier to use than the commercial equivalents. However a lot of it is only available for Windows PC's. You can run your Windows bible software on your mac though..

MySpace Loses myspace.co.uk in DRS Appeal

A success for TWS barring a High Court Appeal and a success it would seem for the lawyer Jim Davies who is a candidate Board Elections.

MySpace stripped of myspace.co.uk domain victory

Secondly, the panel considered the crucial (and more broadly relevant) question of how much control TWS had over what appeared on the parking site. It accepted that TWS had not interfered with the content of myspace.co.uk, including when ads relating to social networking began to appear. Rather, they had been generated and updated by Sedo's software, so it was natural that MySpace's rapid rise be reflected.

Namesco Hosting Review and Comparison

Save money on Namesco Hosting packages with lower cost and greener alternatives for hosting Joomla, Wordpress, Forum and OSCommerce sites.
clipped from www.weycrest.co.uk
Rather than spend hours comparing UK Web Hosts Weycrest are doing it for you! Namesco think they have a great starter package, but not when you compare their features and prices with the Weycrest Personal Plan. This comparison will also apply to all of Namesco's other brands which include Simply.Com, Cheapnames.co.uk, CheapDomainNames.co.uk, Net2.co.uk, 123domainnames.co.uk, XSessions.com, NDO.com and Names123.com

Details accurate as at 23 April 2008. We have also given the Namesco the benefit by including their "half price" special offer for the first year, so Namesco prices are only correct for the first year. The following year they would double in price.

Cheap Green UK Web Hosting

UK Web Hosting Provider offer Carbon Offset and Environmentally Friendly Web Hosting

Weycrest have relocated their business operation in an eco friendly business centre in East London, next to the River Thames, opposite the "famous" O2 Arena. The buildings are constructed entirely from recycled shipping containers! This tends to play havoc with local wireless networks due to the "Faraday Cage" effect, but this is to some extent appropriate as Michael Faraday conducted his original lighting experiments in conjunction with Trinity House from adjacent Lighthouse on the site (the only lighthouse on the River Thames).

Some time ago we realised our web servers may be contributing to CO2 emissions so decided to take some time helping to reduce the effects of global warming by cutting down on our 'carbon footprint'.

Nominet Appeals to Members to Vote

Forthcoming AGM and Nominet wishes to appoint more Directors. Interesting stats from AGM FAQ
clipped from www.nominet.org.uk
Nominet has changed a lot in the 12 years since it was formed. We used to have 100 members, now we have nearly 3,000. In 1996 there were 26,000 domain names on the .uk register, now there are nearly 7,000,000. Our turnover has grown to over £15m. We have a unique, and important function on which many UK citizens and businesses depend: in 2006, the value of sales over the Internet in 2006 was £130.4 bn, and over 2/3 of companies are using the internet to assist their business (source: ONS, 2007 quoted in the Byron review).

Amazon Threatens "Kindle" sites

You would think you be reasonably free to register a domain name with the fairly generic terms of "kindle" or "amazon" in the name. Right? Wrong if you are an Amazon affiliate.
clipped from blogoscoped.com

Jason Schramm registered the domain KindleReport.com a while ago to report on Amazon’s ebook, the Kindle*. Jason also has an Amazon affiliate (aka Amazon Associates) account, which makes him some spare change when people buy Amazon stuff through his site. Sounds like Jason is a double-win for Amazon – he provides a Kindle resource and also sells Amazon stuff. Right? Not quite, according to Amazon’s lawyers. They sent Jason the following letter signed with “Amazon.com Account Specialist”:

Dell's Lawsuit Reveals Lucrative Domain Name Business

A legal case brought by Dell is apparently revealing the "enormous" sums of money made by Web Pages full of paid advertising links.

Each of the websites in question was monetised and has advertising provided by Google Adsense and Google was ordered to hold the first $1 million collected in a special account "on behalf of the defendants each month. The second $1 million that accrues in the account every month will be given to the defendants. If more than $2 million accrues in one month, the money is split between the defendants and the Google account."

Nominet: Country Coded Domains "Boosts Business"

clipped from news.isearchm.com
Search engine optimisation allows companies to gain web exposure regardless of their moniker, but a generic domain name in the .com or .co.uk domain can bring additional traffic to a site from web-surfers navigating directly through the address bar.
Phil Kingsland, director of marketing and communications for Nominet, said: "We’re responsible for the .uk country code and that includes .co.uk, .org.uk, etc and generally research that we’ve done shows that the people use these to become more local."

Win for MySpace in Domain Dispute "Suprising"

Although MySpace.co.uk was registered in 1997 its likely the Independent Expert was swayed by the owners of the domain switching the use of the domain to exploit the success of MySpace.com

MySpace has won the right to have the MySpace.co.uk domain name
despite another firm having registered it six years before the social
networking website launched.

The ruling, by domain registry
Nominet's dispute resolution service, has caused controversy in the
industry because Total Web Solutions of Stockport registered the
myspace.co.uk name in 1997, long before the US social networking
website launched.

Nominet's EPP Goes Live

Nominet, the UK Domain Registrar yesterday launched its Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP) service.

Traditionally Nominet domain name registrars have used the Email Automaton using PGP Encryption to registation. Nominet intend to continue with the Automation service.

This service gives registrars an alternative method of registering and maintaining their portfolio's of .uk domain names.

The main benefits of using EPP are:

1. Responses to commands are generally instant. You can issue a command to register a domain, get a response and then confirm with your customer that this has happened all in real time.

2. Investment in EPP client programming should be transferable when integrating with the EPP service of other registries.

Other global domain registrars have offered an EPP solution for some time.

To connect to Nominet's EPP server registrars are required to register for the service. An EPP testbed will be available to allow registrars to test their EPP implementations.

You are a Legitimate Domainer if you don't Cybersquat

Domainers aren't all cybersquatter's you know. They are usually after generic domains and traffic.
clipped from www.domainnews.com

Traverse Legal logo
A recent posting on the TRAVERSE legal blog looks at how to be a legitimate domainer, and says you can be a legitimate domainer if… you do not cybersquat! The article makes the point that the difference between cybersquatters and domainers is cybersquatters “target well known brands and trademarks, as well as typos of those marks” while domainers “target generic words that have limited or no trademark rights.”

The article begins:
There is a major perception problem that all domainers are cybersquatters. Of course, this is not true. Cybersquatters target well know brands and trademarks, as well as typos of those marks. Domainers target generic words that have limited or no trademark rights. The White Hat Domainers often get lumped in with Black Hat Cybersquatters. This misconception is typified this ‘tongue-in-cheek” post on the Domain Kid Blog as set forth below. Notice how it implies that cybersquatting activities are inherent in domaining.

Nominet DRS Award MySpace.co.uk to MySpace

Controversial decision regarding a high profile domain name dispute, reported today on The Register.

MySpace wins UK domain name that pre-dated its service

Social networking company MySpace has won the right to have the domain name myspace.co.uk transferred to it despite the fact that it was registered six years before MySpace was founded.

The fact that the myspace.co.uk address led to a 'parked' page with adverts for social networking sites including MySpace was taken to be evidence of an abusive registration and the domain name was given to MySpace.

CADNA Report on "Drop Catching"

CADNA is arguing that the AGP (Add Grace Period) whilst well intentioned is being abused.

CADNA Report on Domain Drop Catching

The cyberspace real estate market is booming and domain names are now registered at a faster pace than ever before. One core reason for the expanding marketplace is that domain names can produce monthly cash flow much like rent does in the traditional real estate market. Domainers will tell you that even “bad” names can generate income of $100/year, which is more than 10 times the cost. The ability to monetize domain investments has created increased competition for available and expiring domain names. The reports conclusions are set forth below:

Sean Stafford teaches you how to get good value when you buy your domains and explains tricks that work while also pointing out common mistakes. However, the real gem of this eBook is how he clarifies the road to wealth and the possibilities of making your money (and parked domains) work for you.

Domain Name Tasting Row

It appears that Google and ICANN have not completely killed of "Domain Tasting." Domain Name tasting often known as "kiting" allows registrars and registers to register domains, then cancel them within a short period. This allows them to test a domain for PPC (pay per click) purposes.

However in the case of NetSol, they have been registering domains, in which a potential registrant has expressed interest, to prevent him from registering elsewhere.

Google And ICANN Did Not Kill Domain Tasting; Domain Kiting and NSI Front Running DOA

Domain blogs have been buzzing about Google and ICANN’s recent move to “kill domain tasting”. Upon a closer look Domain Name News felt that initial reports were largely exaggerated .

We followed up with Google to see exactly what they were trying to stop and maybe get some more insight in to their reasoning. Brandon McCormick who was mentioned in some of these articles was our first point of contact and he passed us on to PR rep Daniel Rubin at Google.
